    What Is OHSS?

Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, or OHSS, is a medical condition that can occur when the ovaries respond excessively to fertility medications during IVF.

    How OHSS Develops

OHSS occurs when a large number of follicles grow during stimulation and the ovaries become swollen and fluid leaks into the abdomen. Symptoms range from mild bloating and discomfort to severe cases requiring hospitalization. OHSS is more common in patients with high AMH levels or polycystic ovary syndrome.

    How OHSS Is Managed

Modern IVF protocols reduce OHSS risk through GnRH agonist trigger shots instead of hCG, freeze-all strategies to avoid pregnancy-related hCG, and careful medication dosing based on individual response.

    Why It Matters in IVF

OHSS is a preventable complication. Understanding the risk allows doctors to adjust treatment protocols and protect patient safety.
