    What Is a Trigger Shot?

A trigger shot is a hormone injection given during IVF to cause final maturation of the eggs before retrieval.

    How the Trigger Shot Works

The trigger shot is typically an injection of hCG or a GnRH agonist. It signals the eggs inside the follicles to complete their final stage of maturation. Egg retrieval is then scheduled approximately 34 to 36 hours after the injection.

    Why It Matters in IVF

Timing the trigger shot correctly is critical. Too early and the eggs may not be mature. Too late and spontaneous ovulation may occur before retrieval.
