    What Is Estradiol?

Estradiol (E2) is the primary form of estrogen produced by growing ovarian follicles. In IVF, estradiol levels are monitored throughout ovarian stimulation to assess follicular response and guide medication adjustments.

    Clinical significance

Each mature follicle typically produces 200 to 300 pg/mL of estradiol. Rising estradiol levels during stimulation confirm follicular growth. Excessively high estradiol (above 3,000 to 5,000 pg/mL) may increase the risk of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

    Common confusion

The existing glossary entry for estradiol covers general hormone function. This entry specifically addresses estradiol monitoring during IVF stimulation cycles and its clinical decision-making role.
