Complications Insurance
Insurance that covers additional medical costs if serious pregnancy complications occur during a surrogacy arrangement.
What it covers
Complications insurance typically covers extended hospital stays, emergency procedures, NICU care for the baby, and additional surgical interventions. It acts as a financial safety net for costs that exceed what standard maternity coverage provides.
Why it exists
Pregnancy complications are not rare. Preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, premature labor, and cesarean delivery can each add thousands of dollars to medical bills. Without complications coverage, these costs fall directly on the intended parents.
