What Is Time-Lapse Embryo Monitoring?
Time-lapse embryo monitoring is a laboratory technique that uses automated cameras inside incubators to continuously photograph developing embryos at regular intervals, creating a detailed video record of embryo development.
Clinical significance
Time-lapse monitoring provides embryologists with morphokinetic data, the timing and pattern of cell divisions, which may help identify embryos with higher implantation potential. It also reduces disturbance to embryos by eliminating the need for manual daily checks.
Common confusion
Time-lapse monitoring improves observational data but has not been conclusively proven to improve overall IVF success rates in all patient populations. Its primary value is in providing more information for embryo selection decisions.
