    What Is Embryo Selection?

Embryo selection is the clinical process of choosing which embryo to transfer to the uterus during an IVF cycle, based on morphological assessment, developmental timing, and, when available, genetic testing results.

    Clinical significance

Embryo selection is one of the most consequential decisions in an IVF cycle. It combines embryo grading data, PGT-A results (if performed), morphokinetic information from time-lapse monitoring, and clinical context such as patient age and prior cycle outcomes.

    Common confusion

Embryo selection does not create a better embryo: it identifies which available embryo has the highest statistical probability of implantation. The underlying biology of each embryo is fixed at fertilization.
