    What Is a Sperm Donor?

A sperm donor is a person who provides sperm for assisted reproduction.

    Types of Sperm Donation

Sperm donors can be known (a friend or family member) or anonymous (selected through a sperm bank). Most sperm banks screen donors for infectious diseases, genetic conditions, and provide detailed profiles including medical history and physical characteristics.

    How Donor Sperm Is Used

Donor sperm can be used for intrauterine insemination (IUI) or IVF. In IVF, donor sperm is used to fertilize eggs via conventional insemination or ICSI. Donor sperm is also used by single individuals and same-sex couples building families.
