    What Is Live Birth Rate?

Live birth rate (LBR) is the percentage of IVF cycles that result in the delivery of a living infant. It is the most clinically meaningful measure of IVF success because it excludes chemical pregnancies, miscarriages, and stillbirths.

    Clinical significance

LBR per intended egg retrieval is the standard metric used by SART and CDC to compare IVF clinic outcomes in the United States. It provides a more accurate picture of treatment effectiveness than clinical pregnancy rates.

    Common confusion

Live birth rate is often confused with pregnancy rate. Pregnancy rate includes all positive pregnancy tests, many of which do not progress to delivery. LBR is always lower than pregnancy rate for the same population.
