Implantation Rate in IVF
Implantation rate is the percentage of transferred embryos that successfully implant and produce a gestational sac visible on ultrasound. It is a per-embryo metric, distinct from clinical pregnancy rate.
What Determines Implantation Rate
Implantation rate is influenced by embryo quality, chromosomal status, endometrial thickness and receptivity, transfer technique, and progesterone support. Euploid embryos have implantation rates of approximately 60 to 70 percent. Untested blastocysts implant at approximately 40 to 50 percent. These rates vary by clinic and patient population.
Biological Constraints
Implantation cannot be directly observed or controlled. Even under optimal conditions, a significant proportion of transfers do not result in implantation. This gap between expected and actual implantation reflects the biological complexity of the embryo-endometrial interaction.
