    What Is Embryo Fragmentation?

Embryo fragmentation refers to small membrane-bound cellular debris that separates from blastomeres during early embryo development. Fragmentation is one of the key morphological criteria used in embryo grading.

    Clinical significance

Mild fragmentation (less than 10%) is common and generally does not significantly reduce implantation potential. Moderate to severe fragmentation (greater than 25%) is associated with reduced embryo viability and lower pregnancy rates.

    Common confusion

Fragmentation is not the same as cell division. Fragments are non-cellular debris, not functional blastomeres, and cannot contribute to embryo development.
