    Miscarriage

Miscarriage is the loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks of gestation. It is the most common complication of pregnancy, occurring in 10 to 20 percent of known pregnancies.

    Types of miscarriage

Medical terminology distinguishes between several types: a missed miscarriage (where the embryo stops developing but is not expelled), an incomplete miscarriage (where some tissue remains), and a complete miscarriage (where all tissue passes naturally). Treatment options include expectant management, medication (misoprostol), or surgical procedures such as dilation and curettage (D&C).

    Cost of treatment

Miscarriage treatment in the United States can range from $500 for medication management to $15,000 or more for surgical procedures. Costs increase significantly if emergency room care or hospitalization is required.
