Ectopic Pregnancy
An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that develops outside the uterus, most commonly in a fallopian tube. This condition can become life-threatening if the tube ruptures and requires immediate medical intervention.
Treatment options
Treatment depends on severity. Early detection may allow treatment with methotrexate, a medication that stops cell growth. If the ectopic pregnancy is more advanced or the tube has ruptured, laparoscopic surgery or emergency open surgery is required.
Cost range
Methotrexate treatment typically costs $3,000 to $10,000. Planned laparoscopic surgery ranges from $15,000 to $40,000. Emergency surgery for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy can exceed $100,000 in hospital charges.
