    What Is the Endometrium?

The endometrium is the inner lining of the uterus. During an IVF cycle, the endometrium must develop adequate thickness and receptivity to support embryo implantation.

    Clinical significance

Endometrial thickness and pattern are monitored during IVF via ultrasound. A trilaminar pattern and thickness of at least 7–8 mm are generally considered favourable for transfer. Thin or non-responsive endometrium may require protocol adjustments.

    Common confusion

Endometrium and endometrial lining are the same structure. The endometrium is sometimes confused with the endometriosis condition, which involves endometrial-like tissue growing outside the uterus.
