What Is Implantation?
Implantation is the process by which an embryo attaches to and invades the lining of the uterus (endometrium), beginning the establishment of pregnancy.
Clinical significance
Successful implantation is a critical step for achieving pregnancy in IVF cycles. Many aspects of IVF treatment focus on optimizing the timing and conditions to support implantation.
Common confusion
Some believe that once an embryo is transferred it inevitably implants, but many factors, including uterine receptivity and embryo quality, play a role in whether implantation actually occurs.
