What Is an Aneuploid Embryo?
An aneuploid embryo is one that does not have the typical number of chromosomes, due to either extra or missing chromosomes.
Clinical significance
Aneuploid embryos are usually less likely to implant successfully or may lead to miscarriage or genetic disorders, so identifying them is important in IVF and preimplantation genetic testing.
Common confusion
It is often assumed that all abnormal embryos are easily detectable by appearance, but aneuploid status cannot be reliably determined through microscope evaluation alone.
