    What Is Vitrification?

Vitrification is a rapid freezing technique used in IVF laboratories to preserve embryos or eggs by cooling them extremely quickly so that ice crystals do not form.

    Clinical significance

Vitrification has largely replaced slow-freezing because it improves survival rates when embryos or eggs are thawed for later use in embryo transfer cycles.

    Common confusion

Although vitrification is highly effective, not all embryos or eggs survive the freezing and thawing process.
