    What Is IVF for Surrogacy?

IVF for surrogacy is the medical process used to create embryos in a laboratory by fertilizing eggs with sperm outside the body so those embryos can later be transferred to a gestational carrier.

    Why it matters

IVF is the medical engine of gestational surrogacy. Without it, there is no embryo to transfer. The IVF process determines how many embryos are available, their genetic status, and the timeline for transfer.

How it fits into the process

The egg provider undergoes ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval. Eggs are fertilized in the lab. Embryos are cultured to blastocyst stage and may be tested with PGT-A. Selected embryos are frozen and later transferred to the gestational carrier.

    What people usually misunderstand

The IVF cycle for surrogacy is performed on the egg provider, not the surrogate. The surrogate undergoes endometrial preparation and embryo transfer only. These are two separate medical protocols involving two different people.
