What Is IVF Cost Per Live Birth?

IVF cost per live birth is the total financial investment required to achieve one live birth through IVF, accounting for multiple cycles, medications, testing, and all ancillary costs. It is the most honest financial metric for IVF planning.

    Clinical significance

For patients under 35, the cost per live birth typically ranges from $25,000 to $45,000. For patients aged 38–40, it rises to $50,000–$90,000. Over 40, it may exceed $120,000. These figures reflect the cumulative probability of success across multiple cycles.

    Common confusion

Cost per cycle and cost per live birth are fundamentally different metrics. A $20,000 cycle with a 30% success rate implies an expected cost per live birth of approximately $67,000 before accounting for additional fees.
